How The Impact Collective Accelerates Social Impact – and Why They Chose a B Corp Bank

“Sometimes it’s scary to unwind your banking, especially for bigger businesses. But it’s worth it. It’s important to dig beneath the surface, do the research, and educate yourself on what you’re contributing to.”
– Sarah Holdeman, Co-Founder, The Impact Collective

One powerful aspect of the B Corp movement is the way B Corps show up for one another, and the partnership between The Impact Collective and Beneficial State Bank is an example of that.

In 2020, Rebecca Goldcrump and Sarah Holdeman faced a dilemma. None of the businesses they had worked for were built for the long term. During the Covid pandemic, this short-term approach quickly revealed its brokenness for businesses and people alike. They saw how fragile traditional business models were, and how much our world needed organizations designed for resilience and long-term impact.

With that ethos, Impact Collective was born. Rebecca and Sarah drew on their collective experience in consulting, finance, sales, operations, start-ups, nonprofits, and most importantly, social impact, to help businesses integrate doing good into how they do business. Now a certified B Corp, Impact Collective helps mission-driven companies build strategies that support people, the planet, and business performance.

The Impact Collective operates from three foundational pillars:

  • Empower Whole Humans
  • Client Work
  • A Collective Vision of a Better World

They provide leadership coaching, workshops, retreats, impact strategy services, and B Corp certification support. They meet their clients wherever they are on their impact journey and help them take the next steps toward measurable change.

B Corp certification can be a complex process to navigate, and many organizations struggle to find capacity internally to move through it quickly. The Impact Collective streamlines the process to 8-12 weeks.

The Impact Collective’s Experience Banking with Beneficial State Bank

When The Impact Collective began looking for a bank, they wanted a financial partner that shared their commitment to social and environmental impact. Beneficial State Bank, a fellow B Corp, was a natural fit. Rebecca and Sarah, who use the bank’s checking account and deposit services, highlight that banking with Beneficial State was a “no-brainer”.

“Our business is very focused on B Corp, and we wanted to bank with a B Corp,” says Rebecca. “Banking can feel so not human-driven. We were so clear about our values and the impact we wanted to make in the world. Beneficial State Bank cares about growing our business and about us as humans, not just making money from us.”

“Sometimes it’s scary to unwind your banking, especially for bigger businesses," says Sarah. "But it’s worth it. It’s important to dig beneath the surface, do the research, and educate yourself on what you’re contributing to.”

For Impact Collective, banking became an extension of their mission.

A B Corp Partnership Rooted in Long-Term Impact

As a B Corp bank, our relationships with our B Corp clients extend beyond banking – whether that’s sponsoring community events, helping connect B Corps to the local impact ecosystem, or partnering with fellow B Corps when their expertise strengthens our work.

When Beneficial State Bank sought to formalize its mission into a strategic framework, it partnered with The Impact Collective for its impact strategy services.

The Impact Collective worked closely with Beneficial State Bank’s Chief Impact Officer and met with internal stakeholders across the organization – including founders, board members, Beneficial State Foundation leaders, and Beneficial State Bank staff - to understand the existing mission, values, and aspirations. Through the project, they reformulated the bank’s mission into a six-pillar mission framework designed to track long-term progress and guide decision-making.
